Feelings by Up Dharma Down
Download: [support OPM]
Lyrics:
Breaking through the night
In this cold farenheit
Shadows have left
Crying got old
Bland and bittersweet
Wondering what went wrong
There goes all hope
There goes all hope
But the feeling
It tries to escape
Bleeds through the light even when I close my eyes
Its not seething
The weight on this shoulder
I can’t wait to chase the fiction home
And carry on
Favors in reverse
Songs are unrehearsed
When I get through this
I hope I get through you
Stains on my mind
The cloud on that hour
The minute you closed the door
My eyes washed the floor
Baby baby its hard to say
But there seems to be no other way
You left and you were right
So I have to let us down this time
Cause I can
Cause I can’t feel it
No other way but down
No other way but down
You said so yourself
It’s just
It’s just a feeling
It’s just a feeling
What are you crying for
What are you crying for
When its just a feeling
God knows you can get through this
I wanna know
Do you feel anything
As you go on your way
Driving home
As I sleep alone tonight
I wanna know
Do you feel anything
For me
Before I go
Before I go, forever
I Could’ve Been Your Girl by She and Him
Download: [SOON]
Lyrics:
It doesn’t matter,
If I were willing
It doesn’t matter that the lights are tender love
Oh, oh,
I know you have to go
It doesn’t matter,
I fought my heart
It’s broken, shattered to a million and one
Cause I could’ve been your girl
And you could’ve been my four leaf clover
If I could do it over
I’d send you the pillow that I cry on
It doesn’t matter,
I just begun.
And if you see me,
Just move on.
Cause we are free and never meant to be
Cause I could’ve been your girl
And you could’ve been my four leaf clover
If I could do it over
I’d send you the pillow that I cry on

As a Philippine-brewed artist, sKarm would have been a good choice for our Asian Sundays category, but since his talent is one that merits an exposition far lengthier than our single track features, we settled on shelving him under this month’s Artist Sunday.
————————
At a young age of 23, Phillip Pacheco, better known as sKarm to the enthusiasts of FlipTop (the first Filipino rap battle league), has achieved much as a musician. According to an interview with SoulSonic TV, his emcee name is said to be a portmanteau of his “arm” and the “scars” it incurred from an accident involving his younger self.
Serving as the head of his own record label The PharM, he has also overseen the growth of other emcees with much potential. As of yet, he has released two albums (Introubled Waters and Odyssey to the Sun) and three singles (Mic Check on the Tape Deck, Hip Hybrid and Amidst The Night) under the same label.
His early stint on the local hiphop music scene is largely owed to his having grown up in the presence of two elder brothers who, apart from being well-versed in what the misted side of hiphop has to offer, have numerous hands-on experience on producing music under their belts. Better Days, Better Nights is a one of his smashing collaborations with his brother FLEXX (Miguel Pacheco).
A polar opposite of the mainstream hiphop music the general public is more acquainted to, the tracks tagged with his name are without traces of references to sexual objectification of women, malicious innuendos or worldly blings. This is music that is not chiselled to be a party rouser, but is rather intended to be a passageway of fresh thoughts and perceptions.
The slow, appealing beats that constantly accompany his records make great backdrops for accentuating his rhymes where tactfully arranged lines achieve previously unknown meanings and peaks. How he has excelled in his rap battles (which are freely available in the web) are but a shadow of his lyricism and of what he could do with his deft maneuvering of words. Possibly my favorite track of his, below is a joint work between him and Miki Hahn.
For those who haven’t dared to tread down the domain of hiphop yet, as one of those that used to turn a deaf ear to its products, let me tell you this piece of advice: it’s about time to channel your attention to the true champions of this genre, and if you haven’t figured it out yet, sKarm is by all odds one of them.

Bird in Hand by Blame Sally
Genre: Folk
Comment: This song might sound less progressive but I guarantee you, this serene and classy song still gives chills to the ear.
Lyrics:
She was young and you were, too,
but your heart was cold and gray
A pretty lass, as clear as glass, a diamond for a day
You held her hand, the promised land,
her fears you did allay
Babe you had a bird in hand and in that hand she strayed
The sweetest words she’d ever heard,
they made her trip and sway
You took her down to the old red town
and had your wicked way
Morning came, nothing the same,
her feet had turned to clay
Babe you had a bird in hand and in that hand she lay
Time did pass, and she alas,
felt something that did weigh
A sad-eyed girl, your country pearl
had fallen, as they say
And when she cried, you turned aside,
you pushed her love away
Babe you had a bird in hand and in that hand she stayed
She was young and you were too,
but your heart was cold and gray
When the summer breeze turned to autumn leaves
you took yourself away
You never thought of her sad lot,
she faced a judgment day
Babe you had a bird in hand, a bird that hand betrayed
Years went by, (& all that implies)
And with age came dismay
Your thoughts transformed, your heart grew warm,
you changed your wicked ways
Remembered love, a simple dove,
your diamond in the hay
Babe you had a bird in hand, a hand you overplayed
You went down to the old red town,
the streets in dust now paved
Your pretty thing, a memory,
had long since slipped away
They said she died by the riverside
on a chilly autumn day
Babe you had a bird in hand but the bird has flown away
That Thing You Do by The Wonders
Year: 1996
Genre: Pop Rock
Download: [CLICK]
Comment: The Wonders might just be a makeshift band like Stillwater (from Almost Famous) designed to be a personality in the movie of the same title as the song. They even played together as a band out of the movie. One thing is for sure: the song made the movie, and the song is even more famous. Its happiness never worns out for me. Nineties, you’re always my childhood. :D
Lyrics:
You, doing that thing you do
Breakin my heart into a million pieces
Like you always do
And you, don’t mean to be cruel
You never even knew, about the heartache
I’ve been going through
And I tried and tried to forget you girl
But it’s just so hard to do
Everytime you do that thing you do
I, know all the games you play
And I’m gonna find a way to let you know that,
You’ll be mine someday
‘Cause we, could be happy can’t you see
If you’d only let me be the one to hold you
Keep you here with me
Cause I try and try to forget you girl
But it’s just so hard to do
Everytime you do that thing you do
I don’t ask a lot (I don’t ask a lot)
But I know one thing for sure (Know one thing for sure)
It’s the love that I haven’t got girl
And I just can’t take it anymore
Cause we, could be happy can’t you see
If you’d only let me be the one to hold you
Keep you here with me
Cause it hurts me so just to see you go
Around with someone new
And if I know you you’re doing that thing
Everyday just doing that thing
I can’t take you doing that thing you do
